Sogdiana is the name of one of the districts of the city of Jizzakh, as well as the name of the administrative territory of Sogdiana, located on the Great Silk Road of the Achaemenid state.
The club was founded in 1970. Originally a military team, the club was dominated by young players. Between 1980 and 1985, the club was called Zvezda (Star) and played in the country's first league during the former Soviet era. After independence, the club played its first match in the Uzbek Premier League in 1992, finishing third that season behind Pakhtakor and Neftchi.
In 2003, 2007 and 2012, the club was forced to play in the first league of Uzbekistan. In the 2014 Premier League season, they could have been relegated to the first two places, but as the number of clubs increased from 12 to 14 for the 2015 Premier League season, they will remain in the Premier League this season.
Ulugbek Bakaev is currently the team's coach.
